Higher Education
This page aims to provide information on the Council of Europe's
activities on higher education as well as on other current topics in higher
education. The Council of Europe is involved in the creation of a European
Higher Education Area, particularly in the areas of system reform and the
recognition of qualifications, as well as contributing to the development of
European research policies, the improvement of the management and protection of
the university heritage and the promotion of European studies and citizenship
within higher education institutions.
European Association for International
Education (EAIE)
The EAIE is a non-profit organisation whose main aim is the stimulation and
facilitation of the internationalisation of higher education in Europe and
around the world, and to meet the professional needs of individuals active in
international education. Their site provides information on Training Courses in
the field of international education; upcoming conferences; networking with
their members; and various publications.
Admissions Officers and Credential
Evaluators (ACE)
This is the professional section of the EAIE. They are involved in the
dissemination of information from the national recognition centres and
provision of feedback from admissions officers and credential evaluators
working at universities. The site gives information on the Bologna process,
recognition tools, upcoming events and useful links.
European Centre for the Development
of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP)
This agency helps policy-makers and practitioners of the European Commission,
the Member States and social partner organisations across Europe make informed
choices about vocational training policy. The site provides information on the
present state of and future trends in vocational education and training in the
European Union. It offers studies and reports on vocational training issues;
information on study visits in other member; documentation on vocational
training in the EU and EEA, descriptive monographs on the vocational training
systems of all member states, and comparative statistical information.

This site describes all of the programmes and strategic initiatives in the
field of education, which is managed by the Directorate-General for Education
and Culture.
Higher
Education in Europe
This site describes and provides links to many of the tools and initiatives
used by the European Commission in its attempts to add a European dimension to
education, to help to develop quality education and to encourage life-long
learning.
Lifelong Learning Programme
The European Commission has integrated its various educational and training
initiatives under a single umbrella, the Lifelong Learning Programme. This site
provides information on the various programmes that it manages, including the
NARIC network.
European Network for Quality
Assurance (ENQA)
The European Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) has been
established to promote European co-operation in the field of quality assessment
and quality assurance between all actors involved in the quality assurance
process. The idea for the Network originates from the European Pilot Project
for Evaluating Quality in Higher Education which demonstrated the value of
sharing and developing experience in the area of quality assurance. The idea
was given momentum by the Recommendation of the Council (98/561/EC of 24
September 1998) on European co-operation in quality assurance in higher
education and the Bologna declaration.

Union (Activities: Education)
The European Union is active in promoting economic and social progress in many
areas, including education. The Treaty on European Union, as amended by the
Treaty of Amsterdam, requires the Community to contribute to the development of
quality education by supporting and supplementing action taken by the Member
States, and to implement a vocational training policy to support and supplement
the action taken by the Member States.

gives individuals and businesses practical information on their rights and
opportunities in the EU. It focuses on real-life, cross-border situations,
e.g. European citizens wishing to work or study in another EU country, or
European businesses wanting to move to or open a new branch elsewhere in the

Signpost Service

The Citizens Signpost Service is aimed at EU citizens who encounter problems with mobility in
the European Internal Market. It is an advisory service which gives guidance
and practical advice to citizens on specific problems they encounter in the EU
and its Internal Market. The service is free.

European Training Foundation
(ETF)

The mission of this foundation, which is an agency of the European Union, is to
contribute to the process of vocational education and training reform that is
currently taking place within its partner countries and territories. It also
provides technical assistance to the Tempus Programme. The site offers
information on educational reform within its partner countries.
European University
Association
EUA's mission is to promote the development of a coherent system of European
higher education and research, through active support and guidance to its
members as autonomous institutions in their development of the quality of
teaching, learning and research and in enhancing their contributions to
society. Their website provides information on higher education in Europe and
many links to other organizations and databases.
Eurydice
Eurydice is the information network on education in Europe. This
organization aims to produce reliable, readily comparable information on
national education systems and policies. The site contains a variety of
publications and databases on European education, including:

Glossary on Education
Contains terms relating to examinations, qualifications and titles,
educational institutions, teaching staff, and management, monitoring and
support staff.
European Students'
Union (ESU)
ESU is the umbrella organisation of 47 national student unions from 36
countries. The aim of ESU is to represent and promote the educational, social,
economic and cultural interests of students at a European level towards all
relevant bodies and in particular the European Union, Council of Europe and
UNESCO. The site contains information on activities and issues of interest to
European students.
- NORRIC (Nordic National Recognition Information
Centres)
- NORRIC is a regional network
established by the five Nordic ENIC/NARIC offices. It initiates joint Nordic
projects to learn from each other and reduce barriers to the recognition of
foreign qualifications in the Nordic region. This website provides access to
information about the outcomes of NORRIC cooperation and to further recognition
resources.
UNESCO European Centre for Higher
Education (UNESCO-CEPES)
The site has an impressive collection of links to related organizations, as
well as an explanation of their acronyms and some statistics on higher
education in central and eastern Europe. It also contains information on
policies and reforms in higher education and academic mobility (including
implementation of the Lisbon convention).

Organisation of American
States
The Unit for Social Development and Education of this organization
assists the Member States in formulating public policy, coordinating programs
and initiatives designed to reduce poverty and promote social development and
education (particularly those activities concerned with strengthening
educational systems and job training), and fostering opportunities for
employment and social integration. The website provides a variety of information
(in Spanish) on the unit’s activities in the field of education.
