Diploma Supplement

The Diploma Supplement (DS) is a document produced by national institutions that is attached to a higher education diploma: its aim is to improve international "transparency" and to facilitate the academic and professional recognition of qualifications. It was developed jointly as an initiative of the European Commission, The Council of Europe and UNESCO.

It does not replace the higher education diploma itself. It is designed to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were pursued and successfully completed by the individual named on the original qualification to which this supplement is appended. Although the DS is free from any value-judgements, equivalence statements or suggestions about recognition, it gives information on the national education system and the qualifications owners’ access to further studies and professional status.
