Andorran educational system

In Andorra there are 4 educational systems: Andorran, French, Spanish and British. Education is free from 3 to 16 years old in the Andorran, French and Spanish systems and it is compulsory from 6 to 16 years old in all of them.
After compulsory education, students can choose between general or vocational studies in a High School.
Andorran system is a multilingual system in which Catalan, French and Spanish are used as teaching languages. English is also taught as a foreign language.

Structure

Andorran HEIs offer these accredited degrees:

Diploma Professional Avnçat : Short cycle - 2 years - level 5 of Marc Andorrà de Qualificacions (MAQ) - level 5 of EQF

Bàtxelor : First cycle. Workload of 180 ECTS - 3 years - level 6A of Marc Andorrà de Qualificacions (MAQ) - level 6 of EQF

Bàtxelor d'especialització : First cycle. Access to a batxelor d'especialització requires holding a bàtxelor in the same discipline. Workload of 60 ECTS minimum - 1 year minimum - level 6B of Marc Andorrà de Qualificacions (MAQ) - level 6 of EQF

Màster : Second cycle. Workload of 120 ECTS - 2 years - level 7 of Marc Andorrà de Qualificacions (MAQ) - level 7 of EQF

Doctor : Third cycle. Workloadof 3 years - level 8 of Marc Andorrà de Qualificacions (MAQ) - level 8 of EQF

Andorran HEIs may offer Life Long Learning programs.

The Andorran Qualifications Framework has 8 levels. Levels 5 to 8 correspond to higher education.

Level 5: short cycle inside first cycle
Level 6: first cycle
Level 7: second cycle
Level 8: third cycle

Academic recognition of foreign higher education qualifications
Law 14/2018 of 21 June on higher education, together with the 17 June 2020 Decree approving the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications Regulation, constitute the legal framework in Andorra for recognising foreign qualifications in line with the Bologna Process and the Lisbon Recognition Convention.

Access to levels of higher education

Access to diploma professional avançat and bàtxelor programs:

-  Títol de batxiller.
-  Títol de batxiller professional.
-  Any accredited higher education qualification.
-  Access test for people over 25 years old.

Access to bàtxelor d’especialització (level 6B of the NQF): an accredited higher education qualification of level 6A in the same discipline of the bàtxelor d’especialització.

Access to màster: an accredited higher education qualification of level 6 of the NQF.

Access to doctorat: an accredited higher education qualification of level 7 of the NQF.

Short cycle
Diploma Professional Avançat (DPA) and Brevet de Technicien Supérieur (BTS) are higher education vocational programs with a workload of 120 ECTS. There are short cycle program offered by andorran HEIs and Lycée Comte de Foix.

Academic Recognition for Refugees
Decree of 17-6-2020 approving the Regulation of recognition of higher education qualifications.
To recognise refugees' qualifications, Andorra follows the recommendations of Article VII of the LRC and its associated documents.

In cases where the available documentation is insufficient for recognition through the standard process, Andorra has been part of the EQPR project, piloted by the Council of Europe, since 2023.
