The European University Institute - EUI is a Higher Education Institution created by the Member States of the EU (intergovernmental organisation) and based in Italy (Florence). Its mission is to contribute by its activities in the fields of higher education and research to the development of the cultural and scientific heritage of Europe in its whole or constituents parts. The doctoral diploma issued by the EUI is officially recognized by Italy and it is equivalent by law to the Italian Dottorato di Ricerca (Law No. 352 of 11 July 1986 - Legge Ordinaria n. 352 del 11/07/1986 - recognising the Institute's doctorate as equivalent to the 'Dottorato di Ricerca' established by Presidential Decree No. 382 of 11 July 1980).
